Styles I Like

Spring Sparkle

In Spring — checkered skirts, white or light-colored tops, clean white shoes, hair in two braids, light blush and eyeshadow with mascara, and sparkly lip gloss. Tiny hoop earrings and a cute metal bracelet.

What I Don’t Like

Some looks just aren’t for me. Here’s what I’m skipping:

I Don’t Like

Big shorts with a huge t-shirt and your hair all messy — not brushed — and messy makeup with no accessories.

Why notThere’s a big difference between looking comfy and looking like you didn’t try. The big shorts + huge tee combo — with messy hair, smudged makeup, and zero accessories — really won’t be cute. Some people pretend it’s the ‘effortless’ look. It’s not. It just looks like pajamas you forgot to change out of. Why don’t you just keep reading — or take the style test. That’ll help you fix it.

Occasions to Think About

Different days = different vibes. The biggest mistake is wearing the same thing everywhere. Here’s how I think about it.

Quick Changes

When the day goes from one thing to another, I have to plan for both.

Big Occasions

These are the ones I really plan for.

School Picture Day
A little dressy — this picture lives forever

A fitted knit sweater in soft pink or lavender over a white collared shirt with the collar peeking out. A coordinated skirt or your nicest jeans. Hair in a smooth half-up half-down tied with a satin bow, or polished braids with ribbon. A delicate gold necklace — maybe with your initial. A tiny touch of gloss.

Sam’s tipNo new shoes, no brand-new top — you don’t want to find out it’s itchy at 8 AM. Test the whole outfit the night before, hair and all.

Friend’s Birthday Party
Fun, not too much

Plaid skirt + plain top + high black boots. Or stripe tee + jeans + gold hoops. Don’t out-sparkle the birthday girl — that’s rude. Save the Queen energy for your own.

Sam’s tipBring a hair tie just in case there’s a trampoline.

Church or Mass
Pretty + respectful

A dress or a nice skirt with a cardigan. Tights if it’s cold. Hair brushed and pulled back. No huge hoops — small or studs.

Sam’s tipComfy shoes for the standing-up parts. Heels-ish flats are perfect.

Fancy Family Dinner
Dressed up, real-deal cute

Long-sleeve top + flare pants OR a pretty dress. Hair in a high pony with stacked bracelets. Glossy lip. This is the moment for a little drama.

Sam’s tipIf the restaurant is dim, sparkles look amazing. If it’s bright, go softer.

Sleepover
Cute pajamas count

Matching set or a long sleep-tee + cute shorts. Hair in a low pony. A claw clip is a must. Slippers or fuzzy socks.

Sam’s tipPack one extra cute outfit for breakfast in case there’s a brunch.

Disney or Theme Park
Comfy + photo-ready

Tight pants or biker shorts + a cute character tee + clean white sneakers. Hair in two braids so it doesn’t get crazy on rides. Sparkly gloss for the pics.

Sam’s tipA little crossbody bag > a backpack. Easier on the rides.

First Day of School
Set the whole year’s tone

Something planned weeks ahead. New shoes (broken in!). Hair done. A bracelet you love. The first photo on the porch is forever.

Sam’s tipDon’t pick something you’ll be too hot in. Layers.

Recital or School Performance
Audience-ready

Whatever your director says onstage. Off-stage: a dress or skirt that’s easy to change in and out of. Hair already in the show style.

Sam’s tipBring a bag with snacks, water, and a sweatshirt for after.

Movie with Friends
Cozy + casual cute

Lululemon pants + a zip sweatshirt OR jeans + a stripe tee. Sneakers. Easy to slouch in for two hours.

Sam’s tipHair down or a low messy bun. Lip balm only — popcorn happens.

Beach Day
Sun + saltwater

Cute swimsuit + a coverup or oversized white tee. Slides or flip-flops. Hair in two braids to keep it tame. Sunscreen!

Sam’s tipPack a second outfit for after the beach — sand finds everything.

Mahjong Tiles Are Pretty

Mahjong tiles have so many fun styles on them. Different colors, flowers, dragons, bamboo, dots, characters. They’re basically tiny art pieces and I love staring at them.
